We had an incredible experience at this year’s GamesCom, with Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ winning the 2011 GamesCom Award for Best Online Game as well as being a huge hit with everyone that attended! The air was electric from the excitement as fans and journalists filed through our booth to get some hands-on time with both Origin Worlds and Alderaan Warzone PvP! The reaction from the fans at the show left us feeling incredibly grateful for having such a passionate and dedicated community.
Knowing that not everyone could make it to Cologne for the show, we wanted to share our experience with all of you. Thank you for all of your continued support and enthusiasm for the game!
Friday Update: Fan Friday, GamesCom Plans
As is typical once a month, this week’s update to The Old Republic official site is a Fan Friday. Of course, there are several parts to this update.
Two new polls have been created: Which set of forum icons would you like to see in the next Fan Friday? and What most excites you about pre-ordering STAR WARS: The Old Republic?. Make sure to vote if you feel strongly about either.
There is also several pieces of fan creations on display, as well as new wallpapers. Check it all out in the news post.
In addition to Fan Friday, additional details on The Old Republic’s presence at GamesCom 2011 have been revealed. Let us know if you will be attending in the comments.

Demo Walkthrough Breakdown at DarthHater.com

The friendly chaps over at DarthHater.com have done a lovely job of going through the recently released 20 minutes of gameplay footage with a fine tooth comb and pointing out EVERYTHING of interest. The information is presented in a series of screen captures with points of interest overlayed.
Be warned though, the images are in PNG format and quite large. We will endeavour to host them here as more space-efficient JPG files in the near future.
Until then, enjoy! Click the image below to head to the site.
Video interview from GamesCom
German site SWTOR-Station scored a video interview with lead writer Daniel Erickson at GamesCom the other day. Not a lot is revealed, but there is some hinting in regards to future sith classes.
Video is below.

Overheard at Gamescom….
Bioware hosted a demo video of TOR at the Gamescom in Germany this past week. The SWTOR-Station reporters attended the convention and posted some juicy tidbits of information for us at their site. Some of the things mentioned in the TOR demo included auction houses, crafting, PvP play, and housing. Yes, housing. There are no other details at this time, so we’ll have to wait for more news. All of those things sound great if they’re implemented appropriately.
By the way, if you get the German version of SWTOR-Station and need the English version, click on the US/UK flag on the upper right side of the page.
20 minutes of gameplay footage at IGN
As promised by Bioware, today we get to see 20 minutes of pure in-game action, featuring the Bounty Hunter, the Smuggler, and the recently announced Sith Warrior. The video also features most of the flashpoint event shown at E3.
The 20 minutes of gameplay is split up into 4 smaller 5 minute videos which play one after another, so cue up the first video and you’re ready to go.
Here’s the official comment from BioWare.
“Head over to IGN.com to watch a video of the complete Developer Gameplay Walkthrough showcased at this week’s GamesCom. Get a close-up look at the Bounty Hunter and Smuggler on the worlds of Hutta and Ord Mantell. Jump to the Sith home-world of Korriban and meet the Sith Warrior class. Be transported aboard an Imperial transport ship to see the Bounty Hunter and Sith Warrior decide the fate of the captain and crew aboard the Black Talon.”
What are you waiting for! Go watch it now! Click the image to get to the first video, or here for the list of all 4 videos.
TOR Summer Events Schedule (and Fan Friday)
This week’s update is another content-less one, with BioWare releasing the schedule for which events TOR will be hitting up this summer. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be at both GamesCon in Cologne, Germany on August 19-24 as well as Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Washington on September 4–6. Each of these conventions will feature the first public gameply demos as well as free Star Wars swag. The demo footage is promised to be added to the official website shortly after.
The rest of this week’s update focuses on fanart, a new poll question, and new avatars released on the community site. Check out the full update at the official site.
