The Android Apps You’re Looking For
Once you start playing The Old Republic it consumes you, but we have lives and jobs outside of our virtual Star Wars utopia. Sometimes though you just need that little distraction while you’re away from your computer. Thankfully with smart phones these days our favorite hobbies can travel with us in our pockets. The following is just a collection of some useful and some random Star Wars: The Old Republic apps that are available on the Android Marketplace. If there are any that you use and I missed, let us know in the comments!
Star Wars: The Old Republic Security Key – Free
Electronic Arts Inc.
First we’ll start off with the official security key app for The Old Republic. The security key adds an extra level of protection for you SWTOR account, by having you log in not only with your password but also a randomized code. The code changes every 30 seconds and you must link your phone app with your SWTOR account in order to make use of it. Additionally as an added bonus to increased account security, you’ll unlock access to an exclusive vendor in the game itself. Ultimately the vendor just sells cosmetic items such as Companion Customizations and the usual custom social outfit, but its better than nothing. Really though it’s more about having a larger level of security for your account; after all, you’re going to be investing a lot of time into your characters.
SWTOR Server Status – Free
Euphemeron Industries, LLC.
This app does exactly what it says, from your phone you can check the status of all The Old Republic servers. The app will tell you if the server is up or down as well as give you the current server population, you can also select the servers that you play on and add them to your favorites for easy browsing in the future. There is also a maintenance tab and it will tell you about any scheduled down times for the servers. The app is great when you’ve got your foot out the door at work and you’re wondering if there’s going to be a server queue when you get back.
Datapad – $3.99 Lite version – Free
Arugaba
The Datapad app is like a standalone character creator and build calculator for The Old Republic. The paid version lets you create multiple characters and plan their skill trees all the way up to level 50 as well as set things like Advanced Class, Crew Skills, Race, Gender, and Alignment. The app can basically serve as a blueprint for a character you want to make, and it also serves as a great utility to research abilities and things like which gifts your companions will like or dislike. Free or paid, the app provides a pretty great resource on the go. If only you could save builds and send them to friends.
Absolute Pazaak – Free
Droid Monsta
The perfect app for the smuggler or underworld criminal in all of us. Pazaak may not officially be playable in The Old Republic right now, but you can take it with you to work, on vacation or in the living room. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Pazaak, it is the card game created for KotOR in which opposing players draw cards ranging from values of 1 to 10 in order to get the closest to 20 without going over. You can think of it as kind of like Star Wars blackjack, but of course there are some special rules. Download the app and give it a whirl. You can play against the CPU or your friends, so get everyone you know in on some Pazaak action.
Companion Remote Desktop – $2.99
Hypercane Studios
This last app really is fantastic and what it allows you to do is control your companions remotely while away from your computer, you can send them on Crew Skill missions and more all while you’re supposedly hard at work, or even just in the next room making dinner for the family. It’s a bit more complicated than your average Android App and it requires some computer knowledge to get it working, but once you do get it set up it works like a charm. It does require that the game is running on your computer, what the app essentially does is allow you to access your computer through your mobile device. If you really enjoy the crafting aspect of The Old Republic then you really ought to give the app a try. The folks over at Hypercane Studios have put together a comprehensive guide to get you set up as well.
