New Screenshots and Preview of The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic

CVG has gotten the chance to preview The Old Republic as well as show off some new screenshots from the game. Their preview focuses on companion characters, other areas of Bioware’s expertise from previous RPG’s, and the art style seen in the game. The art style has been a hotly debated topic among fans awaiting the game, and Bioware has commented on this.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

“We wanted to make sure we had a unique look,” says art director Jeff Dobson. “We didn’t want to look like anything else out there. At the same time we didn’t want to cross the line and become too cartoony or so stylised that people couldn’t relate to it. We really strive to make our game look like our concept art. Quite often I’ll walk past somebody’s PC and see some nice concept art suddenly begin to move on their screen.”

The preview also goes over the game’s combat system, as well as how the characters will visually progress so high level characters are distinguishable. You can read the preview at CVG.com.

the beast is poodoo, the Jedi Standing Ready isn’t bad although it doesn’t look quality enough for bioware, again.. change sabers!

This “monster” is so awesome!
but lightsaber’s hilt should be changed, really, it looks horrible. I can life with hilt from KotORs, just not this stuff.

Remember that all these shots are probably still pre-alpha…So a lot can be changed by the time the game rolls around. I like the character models, but don’t especially care for the spandex outfits, I hope we see Jedi robes similar to those in KotOR 1 and the KotOR comics.

I don’t see the Jedi changing from Jedi robes to spandex and back to Jedi robes again. BioWare will get hassled if they don’t include regular Jedi robes that fans have come to love/expect from the prequel films and, more importantly, the game’s predecessors in the KotOR game series.

We will see Jedi robes. I wouldn’t worry about it. :)

Yeah I expect you are right, these outfits are probably just placeholders till they get more done, or perhaps they will be the default/starting outfits.
