Summary

The Troopers are the core and strength of the Galactic Republic military. Battle-hardened, intimidating and fearless, the Trooper stands as the ideal soldier in the fight to maintain order in the galaxy. Whether the Republic needs someone to lead the charge into battle or hold the line against overwhelming numbers, the Trooper is always up for the task. Boasting unrivaled firepower and the best battle armor available, the Troopers of the Galactic Republic are a force not to be trifled with. When push comes to shove, the Trooper will be there to retaliate with a rifle butt to the face.

Lore

The Trooper has always been a mainstay in the Galactic Republic, ready to respond to any threat to their fragile peace.  After the Treaty of Coruscant, the Galactic Republic started to recruit the elite within its own ranks to bolster their Special Forces units.  These cutting-edge special forces squadrons were designed to lead that charge when the war with the Sith would inevitably break out anew.  The player is thrust into the role of an elite Trooper in the Havoc Squad. Well known for their participation in key battles prior to the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, they continue to be the shining example of the best of the Republic.

Jace Malcom is the face of Havoc Squad, a fearless soldier and with a track record to back it up. In the defense of Alderaan, Malcom defeated two Sith warriors and saved Satele Shan from Darth Malgus. No small feat to say the least, this speaks louder than any words to the man’s ability on the battlefield. A walking, breathing legend of the Republic military, as a member of Havoc Squad the Trooper has a lot to live up to. The person largely responsible for the creation and training of the Special Forces is General Garza. Surrounded by controversy and known for her ruthless demeanor, it is easy to see where the Special Forces gets its no-nonsense demeanor and victory at all costs attitude.

Class Specializations

Commando

The spear of the Galactic Republic, the Commando leads the charge with unrelenting offensive power, focusing mainly on putting the hurt on the enemy. The Gunnery skill tree maximizes the offensive power of the Commando’s assault cannon with damage boosting skills that ought to work well at thinning enemy numbers. However, sometimes staying alive and keeping those around him alive is the best offensive and that healing ability is provided by the Combat Medic skill tree.

Vanguard

If the Commando is the spear then the Vanguard is the shield of the Galactic Republic; the protection of his allies is his top priority.  The Tactics skill tree grants bonuses to the melee defense and combat abilities of the Vanguard, allowing for effective close-range tanking. For the ability to better absorb blaster fire, the Shield Specialist skill tree is a necessity.

Both specializations are capable of using the Assault Specialist skill tree, which tosses explosives and grenades into the Trooper’s already deadly arsenal.

Is this the class for you?

The Trooper is a pretty unique multi-tasker, capable of servicing as either a ranged DPS character or a solid tank, and as a player you have plenty of choices available to you. Strictly lore and story speaking, if you’ve played Republic Commando and enjoyed participating as the elite Delta Squad, then the story of the Trooper and Havoc Squad would be to your liking as well. You can expect the Trooper to be deployed on your standard in-your-face combat oriented missions more often than not, so if you’re looking for action packed play the Trooper would be a good class to choose. Of course, there is always the role-playing aspect of being the Commander Cody to your friend’s Obi-Wan. Just try not to betray your friend!
