Summary

Like the Sith Inquisitor the Jedi Consular is more well renowned for their knowledge and skills with the force than for their abilities in melee combat. Do not be fooled though, the Jedi Shadow can turn his knowledge of the force into a viciously effective weapon when needed. True to their stereotype however, they can also use the force to heal and strengthen their allies in combat and perhaps nothing is feared more than a legion of troops supported by a skilled Jedi Sage. Able to use his knowledge of the force, natural wisdom and charisma the Jedi Consular makes for an outstanding adviser to diplomats and friends of the Republic. Able to turn the tides of war equally through words as well as actions the Jedi Consular is an invaluable asset to a team looking to take on the might of the Sith Empire.

Lore

The Jedi Order has traditionally been broken down into three separate branches, Guardians, Sentinels and Consulars. Widely known for their mastery of the Force the Consular is generally seen more as the ambassador or diplomat of the Order. However, in The Old Republic the role of the Consular has expanded much from that surface analysis. The Jedi Sage and Shadow both are considerably powerfully in combat using their strong connection with the Force to aid their allies and assault their enemies. Being a Consular in the era of The Old Republic demands just as much action as it does diplomacy. It is their wisdom through the Force that grants the Consular the ability to handle delicate situations with skillful tact, avoiding needless conflict.

It can therefore be assumed that Jedi Consulars played a large role in the negotiation and approval of the Treaty of Coruscant, ending open hostilities between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic and ushering in an era of a galactic cold war. Working tirelessly to preserve the fragile peace between the two opposing bodies is Grand Master Satele Shan, perhaps the most well respected Jedi Consular of her era. Without her wisdom and connection to the Force the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order would undoubtedly be in a much more dire situation than they already are. Rediscovering the lost world of Tython, allowing for the rebuilding of the Jedi Temple and the Jedi Order itself only further affirmed her position as a leader among the Jedi.

Class Specializations

Sage

The Jedi Sage embodies the image of a Consular with a mastery of the Force. The Sage’s healing and protective arts comes from the Seer skill-tree, granting both themselves and their allies with increased longevity in combat. Far from a slouch on the battlefield however, the Telekinetics skill-tree gives the Sage the ability to cut down their foes with offensive Force powers designed to hit their foes from afar.

Shadow

Reinforcing his lightsaber skills with his knowledge of the Force, the Jedi Shadow prefers a stealthy close combat approach to the ranged approach of the Sage. The Kinetic Combat skill-tree gives the Shadow the ability to buff both his lightsaber and his defenses granting a bit of tanking ability to an otherwise stealthy hit and run approach. The stealth enhancements of the Infiltration skill-tree make the Jedi Shadow a deceivingly destructive foe and a tough opponent to track down.

The Balance skill-tree gives both the Sage and Shadow bonuses to their skills with the Force and a lightsaber increasing the punishment they can deal out on the battlefield, as if they needed any more bonuses to their devastating abilities.

Is this the class for you?

The Jedi Consular offers the player a multitude of choices for developing their character. The Jedi Sage is a great support class offering healing and buffs for the player and their allies and can even be an effective ranged dps character with their force abilities. The Jedi Shadow on the other hand is an effective melee dps character and can even play the role of a tank with its defensive buffs and the Infiltration skill-tree allows the Shadow to operate in a capacity similar to a Rogue character. If you’re a player that wants to play as a Jedi, but isn’t sure what role you want to fill in your party or what role your party needs, the Jedi Consular is a great choice. You have the ability to fill a wide range of roles for your co-operative play making the Consular a very adaptable class. The class story is rumored to be among the best by beta invitees, consisting of quests that have more diplomatic choices than other characters. No matter your play style the Consular can adapt to your needs so the choice comes down to the desire to play the story and role of a Consular in the Galactic Republic.
