Blizzard does not see TOR as a threat

VG247 has spoken with Blizzard COO Paul Sams about The Old Republic, and Sams does not see it as a threat to Blizzard’s own MMO.
“No, we don’t feel threatened by them,” he explained. “We actually think that having additional players in the market is positive, because it’s going to introduce a broader group of people than maybe are available right now.”
While World of Warcraft currently has the largest userbase of any MMO, Sams acknowledges the bumps along the way to getting there, and warns EA that getting an MMO on the market right is “easy to underestimate.” The things that The Old Republic has going for it are a great license and and a great development team, but it’s team does not have the experience of Blizzard in the online market.
“… I think it’s really easy to underestimate how difficult the rest of it is. We went into this being the world leader in online games, and we still got our ass handed to us countless times.”
LucasArts and EA are gunning for WoW, so while they have a lot of work ahead of them, Blizzard should not underestimate their new competitor either.
