- What is The Old Republic?
The Old Republic represents a new approach to online entertainment, featuring immersive storytelling, dynamic combat, and groundbreaking companion characters. The game takes place about 300 years after the events in Knights of the Old Republic. - Who is developing the game?
The game is being developed in a partnership between LucasArts and Bioware. - When is the game’s release date?
The game will be released on December 20, 2011 in North America and Europe. A release date for Asia and Oceania is still pending. - What systems is the game for?
The Old Republic will be a PC-only title, as confirmed by LucasArts. - Can I get in to the beta test?
BioWare is currently allowing members of the official site to opt-in to a closed beta. Not everyone who signs up will be accepted, so opt-in here. - How much will the game cost to play?
The game costs US$60 for the standard edition of the game, and comes with one month of playtime. The game’s subscription cost is $15 per month after the first month.
Gameplay
- What kind of game is The Old Republic?
The Old Republic is an MMO, or Massively Multiplayer Online game. This will allow thousands of players to interact all across the galaxy. - During what time period is the game set?
The game is takes place more than 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader, and about 300 years after the events in the original Knights of the Old Republic. - Can I play alone?
There are some tasks that require multiple players, but the majority of the game can be played alone. - What species and classes can I play as?
View our Classes page for more information on classes. There will be multiple species to choose from for each class, but not all species will be available for each class. - Will I be able to travel to other planets?
Yes, along with many familiar planets from Knights of the Old Republic and the Star Wars movies, there will be several new planets as well. See our planets section for more info on which planets are currently announced. - Will I be able to play on the light or dark side of the Force?
Yes. During character creation you will choose to align with either the Republic or Sith, and during the game your choices can affect your alignment. - How does this game relate to Knights of the Old Republic?
Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place approximately three hundred years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. At the end of the game, Revan ventured into unknown space. Revan never returned, but the Sith Empire did. Now the tensions among the divided star systems is rising, threatening to tear the galaxy apart. Most characters from KOTOR will have passed away by now, but their legacy lives on, and it is hinted at that we will see the return of T3-M4 and HK-47.
