The Galactic Republic

The Galactic Republic is one of two factions in The Old Republic. It is the bastion for good and the center of peace and progress, a bright beacon in the darkness.

The Jedi Order have sworn to protect the Republic from any evil that might become a threat. This has become a tradition of the Jedi for many millennia. However less than a century ago, the greatest of threats returned to the galaxy: the Sith.

The Republic was caught off-guard by the massive Sith fleet and was crushed. After Coruscant had been devastated by the Sith forces, the Senate and the Chancellor were forced to sign the Treaty of Coruscant which forced the Republic to withdraw forces from many longstanding allies such as the Bothans. This severely crippled the Senate. The Jedi also took much of the blame, and the Senate has since distanced itself from it’s loyal protectors.

After the Jedi moved their Council to their home world of Tython, the Republic trained a new force as it’s defense. These Special Forces units are elite troops who work with near perfect efficiency. The Jedi fight side by side with them, but in some cases the Elites have become the primary defense of the Republic.

The Republic remains optimistic and many new leaders have stepped forward to help bring about change and restore the Republic to it’s former self.
